So, what do YOU collect?

As I mentioned in my previous entry, iggy was wondering what all the different readers of my blog like to collect. This ponderance (in case you didnt catch those two blog entries) was stemmed from the fact my hubby has a rather extensive collection of comic books (among other things...).

Me? Well I collect a few diffferent things. I collect porcelain dolls. At this point I have more than I had when I had to leave Pennsylvania. The picture to the right are some of my favorites. Oh hell, who am I kidding....they're all my favorites! I blame my mom for starting me on this hobby as it was she who gave me my first doll. Sadly, I had to leave that one behind. I had to be careful how many I socked away at the time but Im sure all of you have read about that in the other entries and know exactly what Im talking about. *drops subject*

I collect stuffed animals. Not just the teddy bears pictured to the left. I've got a lion, a lamb and several others in my collection. This has got to be my third collection. I had one when I was still living home with my folks. When they decided they were going to move us to California, we were told to weed our collections down to one box worth. After weeding and allowing the excess to be sold as yard sale fodder, I decided to stay and so what I had left was the start of my second collection. When I had to move from Louisiana to Pennsylvania and the moving truck fell through, I had to leave all but a couple pieces behind. My third collection has been donated by my darling hubby. The ONLY piece that has survived all the moves and all the drama is Ralphie. Ralphie is that dark brown handmade teddy bear with the polka-dot ears in the picture. He is in his 30's and my mom's the one who made him for me.

Being an ex-streamer, and all around music lover, I collect music. That which is pictured to the right doesnt even BEGIN to represent the music I have on hand. I blame my mom again for this one. She instilled the love of music and singing in me. We were taught an appreciation and at least a tolerance of all types of music. On that rack pictured I have a wide selection ranging from 3 Doors Down to Wilson Phillips and much that's in between....even Yanni, Barry Manilow, jazz, country and opera. My favorite is rock though. I cant get enough of rock.

I used to have a small collection of horses as well. Some musical carousel ones, a couple rocking horses and a Breyer. I wouldnt mind starting that collection again, but we just dont have the room for it right now.

So....what do YOU collect?

I use to collect frogs, but I've lost most of them in the last 5 years...Maybe I'll take a pic of what I have left...and I have lots of stuffed animals. Not that I collect them but my kids wanted to keep theirs from when they were little so guess who gets to tote them around LOL. Never was into doing much collecting.

I no longer really collect anything much. I've gotten into a "lets not leave a pile of stuff when I leave this earth" frame of mind - not that there is anyone to "leave it to" or that I'm saying I want to be leaving anytime soon.

I used to collect books - complete sets from favorite authors, time-life series, the hardy boys, that ilk. No longer.

I collect old "stuff" from my family (still do I guess), heirlooms (a couple hope chests, an end table, a wind up clock, that sort of thing) or just special (to me) items, papers, and photographs.

*makes note...yet another frog lover*

I understand iggy. I really should downsize too but they're all so pretty! Im thinking the doll collection will get distributed to the nieces in the family....there's only the one by blood right now but a couple more showed up in my life last night that I'd consider sending pieces to as well..... long story...will blog it in a bit.

Welcome Marmy!! *HUGZ* So glad you popped in. No worries on spelling errors...most of my readers read "hankinese" or "corkinese" (thusly named for a couple of chatters who had the most atrocious spelling...), if we can keep up with THEM then we can pretty much understand you as well. :)
Sounds like you have quite the collections. I'd have more of everything if I didnt have to keep moving all the damn time. Maybe it's someone's way of keeping my collections at a manageable level? *shrugz*

I collect music. I have loads of CDs. Not nearly as many as many of the people on here, but still a tidy collection. And quite a variety of genres too.

I also collect movies... DVDs, videos... I'm not picky. I'm working on getting all the movies and TV series that I enjoy in my collection.

And then there's my books. My book collection has shrunk quite a bit because at the end of last year - for reasons you can probably guess - I gave away all my print books. I'm working on replacing them with audio or braille ones though, and even with the huge dent in them from the print books being removed, my book collection isn't too bad.

Then there's my stuffed animals. Kelly says if I get many more they'll need their own room. But people (including him) still buy me more.

You'll get to see my collections when we're done sorting the flat and get some pics on my blog. :)

At least I can say I don't collect as many things as marmitetoasty does, lol.

My most important collections are my shotglasses. I have approximately 364 shot glasses, from all across the United States and Europe. I'm hoping some day to have one from all 50 states.

My next collection is, Styx cover your eyes, American Civil War books. I've been fascinated with it ever since I saw an old book at my grandma's that was printed in the late 1800's. I still have that book, with a binding that's falling apart, as my memento of my grandmother.

Like Styx, I also collect music. Also being a streamer, I try to have a wide variety of music for my listeners. Almost all my cd's are on my computer, those songs total almost 19,000. Do you think I have too much? LOL

I used to collect stuffed animals, but I outgrew it (no offense, Styx). I have many bagged up and down in my storage closet. Somewhere I believe I still have my Henry dog I had as a little girl. I took him everywhere. He's never been washed, so is looking a little worse for the wear. And he even had surgery when his head almost detached from his body, lol. Mighty fine sewing job I did!

I did also collect unicorns at one time, but that sort of didn't go anywhere. I didn't have much room for them, what with all the shot glasses, lmao. So I'm beginning the process of looking for the boxes they belong in so I can pack them away and possibly sell them.

I have lots of other books, but I wouldn't at this point say most of them are being collected. Most of them are the monthly romance novels. I used to buy every six that came out every month, and never read all six in a month, so I got way way behind, lol. I'm working my way through those in between the other books I'm reading. And I have finally finished the Alexander Hamilton book I was reading! Whew! It only took me almost three months, lmao.

I think that's it. I have accumulations of other things, but they aren't really collections, so I won't go into details here, lol.

Oh, and I read here that someone besides AK likes frogs???????

Oh, yeah... I forgot to add...

I also collect Lego (though that collection isn't on display... Can't play with it if it's on display *wink*).

And - with the help of a certain magazine - I have a nice collection of wizarding chess pieces and have almost completed the dragon chess pieces set (it's a Harry Potter chess magazine). I'm not any good at chess, but it's Harry Potter. :)

I also have a collection of games and puzzles. I like having different things to fiddle with or play when I'm bored.

I read this blog the other day but didn't post a comment...seems something pulled me away and I didn't get back til now. (i'm having a hard time concentrating on what i'm writing now, too)

I collect Monopoly board games...I have lots. Someday I'll take a pic or two...or three...of my collection. My kids have a lot of them too...from Star Wars and Simpson's for Marty to I Love Lucy and Penn State for Karen.

I also collect shot glasses. I didn't start collecting them until Marty started collecting them on band and choir trips when he was in high school.

Terri has collected beer steins since he was in Alaska while in the Coast Guard. We have lots sitting all over the place.

And I inherited my grandmother's pitcher and cup & saucer collection when she passed away. Some of those have been in pics I've posted of my kitchen or living room before.

I know I must be forgetting something.....oh....and I collect frogs. *winks*

(it only took me a half hour or so to read this and comment between messages coming at me on ICQ. i think i can hit publish now)

*Covers eyes as instructed and then ultimately peeks* ACK! Civil War books? Well, at least it's just the one war and not ALL of them so there's hope for you yet! You havent gotten to the point of watching movies dealing with each battle on the day the battle was done yet? Gosh I hope not.
