So.. we had an okay-ish trip coming in to the "In-Loves" place yesterday. I decided that I really REALLY miss Penny's seats (the Lincoln) because of their lovely lumbar support. Oh goodness did my back hurt! Hubby's bought something for my seat that has a lumbar support so the trip home shouldn't be as bad. Other than the traffic jam we encountered (a horrid wreck) and that nasty storm we ended up going through... there was only one real complaint I had on the trip. Seriously, Virginia, if you're going to have one of your rest areas patching and repairing their parking lot, could you PLEASE tell them to plan accordingly? Not a single handicap spot available (not that we have a tag, but still... there were others in need for sure). In the few minutes we were in there were 5 of us with canes, one on a walker and one on crutches. It would have made much more sense to patch up to the handicap ramp, wait until it was cured, then start patching in batches past the ramp. Then there would have been at least a few places closer to the facilities....

thinkin of a friend, buckle up, shoppin, and somethin else
On our way home Friday, the truck decided to overheat. When hubby popped the hood, even this vehicularly stupid gal could see that there was plenty of fluid in the thingy where the coolant is supposed to go. *UGH* it means the thermometer ~finally~ gave out on us. So we let the truck cool as we were off shopping and then drove straight home. Mind you, it's less than 2 miles where we were to home. In that short time, the truck overheated again. *shakes head* Hubby decided to let it cool overnight and then bring it in to the repair shop. I don't wanna hear it, really. I DID tell him to take it right in and that way it could cool overnight and they'd be able to get to it right away. Did we do that? NO. *sigh* He woke up about 7am and took it in as soon as he knew they were open. Thankfully they are just around the corner so the truck didn't have time to even get luke-warm.
Around noon-ish, we decided to walk on over to the Buffet place for lunch. After lunch, he decided to walk over to the repair shop to check on the truck and told me he'd meet me in McKays afterwards. On my way over to McKay's I saw this awesome cloud formation.
While hubby was headed to check on the truck, I decided to pop into the Payless next door to see if there were any specials. My sneakers are looking rather beat and since I have to wear them every day to ride my bike, they don't exactly have a decent amount of time to air out. I was hoping for a nice cheap pair to wear on the alternate days. I ended up spending a bit over $20 for a nice comfy pair. They were originally $24.99 and they were on sale for $19.99 which is a decent deal. Seems the feet shrank by about half a size. The last pair I bought I needed a size 9 to get a pair that was wide enough for my feet. This pair is only an 8.5. I really hate my wide feet. Mom always called them Fred Flintstone feet because they were short, wide but they got me to where I needed to be. The suckers are only a 7.5 when you measure toe to heel, but wide enough to need the next full size up in a wide to get the width where it needs to be for comfort.
When 2-3pm showed up, with no call, hubby got antsy and went over to see if they were done. Why he didn't call, I don't know. Near's I can figure he just needed to get out of the house. Not that I blame him any. He called me before leaving to come home, it wasn't done yet but they were just bringing it in to have a look see. Oh dear. I saw it coming. He was told that they'd call before quittin time (5pm) to let him know if they had it done or not. By 430pm, hubby needed to get out again and decided that we'll both walk over and check. Anyone who's thinking that it wasn't done give yaselves a nice gold star. Now before anyone spouts off on the hubby (which it would be deserved for delaying) OR on the mechanics, you need to know that the truck is an '88. It's old and has served us very well. Plus the part needing repair is an ORIGINAL part. That said... it wasn't finished because a bolt was giving them a hassle. It's one of those things you need to take it easy removing because too much pressure will break the bolt and THEN you're really screwed (literally and KY aint provided). So they were gonna need to soak it down with something and let it set for a few hours to see if it can be removed easier. Yeah. Quitting time on a SATURDAY and the truck's not done. They're not open on Sundays and hubby needs to get to be able to get to work on Sunday. *sigh* Ya know what though. The head mechanic really surprised us. He handed over the keys to the company vehicle and is allowing us to use it until the truck gets fixed. With any luck it'll be done Monday afternoon or evening sometime because I really hate riding in a rolling billboard.
Below is a shot of the 2 new colors. I did, indeed, buy an Adam Lambert blue...which is the next color I plan on wearing. I really love the shade I have on right now though!
there will be a second post much later tonight....sometime between 11pm and midnight.
some totals, carolers, thanks
To put the total miles into perspective, a trip from my place to Norristown Pennsylvania is only 179.94 miles....Im only 4.29 miles short of a trip from here to Reading Pennsylvania. As for Chicago....that's a 2 MONTH ride.
I suspect that if I HAD really made that trip to iggy's neighborhood, the above scene would have greeted me....OCHA carolers, getting into the holiday spirit! So long as they dont offer me any fruitcake, I'll be happy.
I wanna thank Wifey and her hubby for the awards they were passing out. I have them in my awards entry now. The one on Wifey's page just goes so well with my decor (her's is in my sidebar...the one below is from Matt's page) and Matt's, well the one he's giving out is just too cute!!!

And I got them simply for saying a nasty Scrooge deserved a horse head in her bed! Well, Chicagolady has her connections and I do too. Shoot, I was married to the "mob"...I still have a few connections as well. What color should I put on that order for ya Wifey? A nice roan? Or maybe a Palomino?

dr, alien probes, not feeling good, medical updates
We got ready and left around 8am to go to the Imaging center for my scan. The appointment wasnt until 930am but the traffic is always horrendous that time of day (they keep sending us out the the Fair Oaks offices...). Good thing we left early because not only was the traffic bad, but the building was a bit hidden out of the way. Hubby walked me in to be sure I didnt get lost (I get lost easily) and then left for his own appointment (he was getting his stitches out). I wont go into this appointment here (that one probe though...oh my!! all I could think of was when did I get abducted by aliens????)...details about it are in the Journey. Remember to read the banner in there before you get into the entry. It's there for a purpose. When I got out, hubby was waiting on me...stitch-free.
Breakfast was at the Silver Diner (http://www.silverdiner.com/index.html ). I had the most yummy french toast with fresh strawberries EVER. Im not going to fuss that I went off my diet because Im allowed 2 starches for every meal...and 2 slices of toast cut diagonally into 4 pieces of french toast counts! Plus there was 1 cup of fresh fruit and hubby gave me one piece of breakfast sausage (ok, that was naughty but it was less than the 2 ounces Im allowed). So yeah, I had a good meal before going in for my shot.
After breakfast, we headed out to the dr's office. The last few days I havent felt 100% at all. My left ear had been aching off and on and the spot just under my earlobe and down the side of my neck had been aching as well. Now, before anyone worries, this has been a common thing for me lately. The sinuses get aggravated and back up behind that deviated septum and these are the 2 areas that hurt first. I've figured out that when they start bothering me, I've got about 2-3 days to fight it before it spreads to the other ear and becomes a full blown sinus infection. However, since it was a shot day...I figured I'd better see the dr just to be sure because if I was going to need antibiotics I was going to forego the allergy shot and get on the antibiotics pronto. The dr said I was just coming down with a bit of a cold and it wasnt anything to worry about. However, since things tended to go bad and fast with me it would be prudent to have some antibiotics in the house just in case...so she wrote a 'script, just incase. Oh! ~grinz~ and my stats:
BP : 139/71 (even after that appointment earlier and not having a chance to rest after checking in)....down from the 11/10 reading at the obgyn of 142/90 (where I had time to rest before going in to the exam room)
Weight: 279 pounds. This is with shoes on (I usually take em off as well as as many clothes as I can and stay modest in the dr's public areas), a full belly (I usually weigh empty), full ummm waste recepticles...(so! They called me really fast...I didnt have time to potty!!), and that stupid friggin bloat a woman gets once a month (that cant be helped ya know). Even with all that working against me....I weighed 279. DOWN from the 11/10 weigh in at the obgyn of 284 pounds. This means nearly 20 POUNDS GONE since August!!!! Most of it lost since October.
So the last couple days my back has been bothering me some. It wasnt in just one spot either. One was expected, just not as painful as it was. The other was more like the one I ended up having in early January 2007, just not to the point of sticking me in the hospital. I explained most of how it was feeling in the comments section of the last entry so I wont keep on about it today. I was so miserable when I got home Friday that I ended up crying which is the worst thing in the world to do when Im sick. All getting upset does is push my blood pressure up and if Im not feeling good when I start, I feel worse afterwards. Oh and this week's shot? Lumped up to 2" in diameter and itched all the way into last night and a bit into this morning. Yeah, Im sure getting upset didnt help matters there either.
today's ride:
Calories burned: 388.4
trip miles: 11.09
ave mph: 22.18
Yeah, Im feeling a bit better today even after an interrupted sleep period. I woke up bright and almost alert at 1235am...a mere 2 hours after crawling into bed. Was awakened when the alarm went off for hubby and then again at 630am...have been up ever since.
burning rubber, civic duty and other schtuff
Calories burned: 368.9trip miles: 10.54
Oh...and when we got home....we found ANOTHER flier from the same friggin political party in the door. Mind you, we threw the one from this morning out so this is TWICE today they visited. Maybe it's a good thing I wasnt home.....
Seen on a main road somewhere in Virginia...

FALLOUT!
According to the farmer, 5 months ago he heard a loud ruckus outside in the sheep pen. When he went out to check on the commotion, he found evidence that "some critter" had been digging to get under the fence as well as pieces of orange plastic embedded in the gate. He moved all the sheep into his barn for the remainder of the night. The next morning, when he checked on them, each ewe had orange smudges on her rump. Officials originally chalked it up to teens playing a prank and "tagging" the sheep with spray paint.
SCANDAL!!
Report: Orange Conehead-Alien has sex with sheep!
The big question is whether or not the public will be willing to over look this fettish of Mr Conehead-Alien. When asked why he chose sheep, he responded "Because there is this guy that has been lurking around with a camera lately and making the squirrels all skittish. They are impossible to catch nowadays."
Vote 2008
While surfing around on the 'net, I found this grassroots movement for someone we all know and love. Unbelieveable! My biggest question is......By law can our beloved OCHA run? Someone better flip him over and make sure he's MADE IN AMERICA.
Tuesday and odds and ends
I really havent felt much like writing lately. There's just been a couple things on my mind the last couple days or so. Things I was worried about (and one I still am worried about), but yet I really cant talk about. No, it's not anything going on with me. It does have something to do with a couple really close friends of mine though (each with her own problems). There are times I hate being so far away from those that I hold close in my heart. Both hit a bit close to home though, a little closer than I'd care to have.
One was easy once I cleared my mind of all the details and saw what all was at the heart of the matter. It dealt with jealousy and dissappointment issues, a procrastinating future husband and a mother who's suffering panic attacks. This friend is handling the future hubby to be ok but the other stuff was kinda getting her down and she wanted to know if she was crazy for letting all this stuff bother her. I just reminded her she has a very strong backbone and she's not going to please everyone with her decisions. That it was their (hers and his) day and no one elses so no one else's opinions really mattered, so long as THEY were happy. I suggested a few things for the hurt feelings that a couple of people in her life were feeling. I also pin-pointed why her mom was having the panic problems, when they started and why they were getting worse. All I did with that one was put myself in mom's shoes for a bit. She and I have an awful lot in common in that we've divorced and are still healing so it was easy to get into her shoes and see things through her eyes. I think I pretty much got that friend feeling better (I think it helped to actually use the words "you arent crazy"). She's told me Im either psychic or have missed my calling as a psychologist. Hmmm. She isnt the first to have said that lately....
The other friend's problem hits really close to home. A lot closer than is comfortable for me to be honest. She's going through much the same I was before I moved to Texas. Those that have read that other section of my site know exactly what Im talking about. She's got it worse though. Her "problem child" is much more manipulative and evil than mine ever was. In essence, where mine was just nasty with half a brain....hers is down right evil and very smart. On top of things, he's been physically violent with her. I suspect on more than one occassion too. Needless to say this hasnt helped me out much and Im fighting many of the bad memories all over again because she has alot of questions of how I felt and what I thought and etc etc etc. Something tells me it's going to take both of us to help one another heal.
Saturday we went to the farmer's market to get some local honey. Looks like the market in my area doesnt carry it. I saw alot of other products, just not the item I needed. Go figure I found what I needed at a Bloom's grocery store. The honey I got was made about an hour away from us. It's the closest I've found so far. There were no ingredients listed on the label, just honey so im hoping they didnt blend anything else in it. I've been taking it for 2 days now and hope that it'll begin to help things out some soon. If it works, I'll put hubby on it too.
Not much else is going on. Im going to put a few pix in here that I took this last week. The pansies were taken at a business of some sort. The dogwood bloom (the hand holding the bloom is hubby's), floral bush (look iggy...a wrinkled worm!) and irises are right in my front yard. The irises should go into full bloom sometime this week if they havent already (no, I dont look outside...I only notice things when I actually leave the house for something). The tree with the beautiful pink blooms was in a parkinglot of a restaurant. Boy, the pic turned out nice. It just may end up being a background on my page sometime in the near future.
Time for bed. Im finally exhausted enough where I think I can fall asleep for my 5 hour nap. Everyone have a nice day. *HUGZ*
cold weather, redecorating, apps, the kids and the 15th
I've done some redecorating on the page again. I got tired of the banner up top and found that bridge while I was in Google looking up Manassas. While I was in there I figured I'd grab something to match as the background. That's when I came across the picture for Lower Doyles River Falls in Shenendoah National Park. One of these days I ought to take a trip and get my own picture of them.
I got some applications all filled out and ready to go. All I do is get them walked over to the strip mall. I think I'll do that tomorrow. Hubby's got to go in tomorrow afternoon and I really need to prove I can do this by myself....to myself. I've spent way too much of my life cooped up. Not necessarily afraid to go out by myself, but also not brave enough to exit the confines of the property (well except for the occassional trip to the mailbox) Im living on alone. Now that Im living within walking distance of many shops AND a bus route, it's time to get that little problem of mine fixed and pronto. Ya know, I think I'll see if I have enough cash on hand for a haircut too while Im out.
The kids are doing ok. Dharma's going up and down the stairs with no problem. She's become awefully lovey since we moved here and cannot stand to be on a level of the home without anyone with her. It's gotten quite cute actually because she's gotten talkative too. She never really meowed much while in Texas but every so often she'll "hollar" for me if she cant find me right away. All I have to do is imitate her miau and she'll come running. Katy has had a set back though. On her way up the stairs one evening, she took a misstep (or mis-leap?) and slipped backwards on the stairs...sliding about 1/3 the way down. Then her fanny hit a step just right and she ended up doing backwards summersaults for the most of the balance of the way down. We're lucky she didnt get hurt. Since then hubby doesnt allow her to take the steps by herself, actually...she wont even attempt them at all. I cant say I blame either of them. So we're back to carting her up and down the stairs. Well, hubby is, when Im home alone she's kept downstairs.
We got a note on our door the other day. Looks like they'll be working on something in my area on the 15th and it means they'll be shutting off the water that day until the modifications have been completed. I hope it's only a one day thing. Thankfully, hubby has the day off and we planned on being out and about during the day. Hmmm...means I better pack my camera, eh iggy?
Well, I'd better scoot. Chicago showed me how to convert my music files to a lower bit rate through MusicMatch so Im trying to get some of those done as well. I've got several files done but not a whole folder's worth yet so I think I wanna get a few more tunes done tonight before bedtime.
*HUGZ*
LS
damn Im so tired
While on the way to the townhouse to wait for the delivery of our household goods, we popped into a gas station so hubby could pick up some sodas. I was really surprised by what I saw in the parking lot....Payphones! You rarely see them anywhere anymore because most people carry cell phones. *looks at them thru iggy's eyes* Oh WAIT!! They're alien communication devices so they can be like E.T. and phone home....
The following pictures arent for the faint of heart. Knowing how Alice feels about such sights, someone please blindfold her.... ~grinz~
Just a couple of rooms (immediately above is the "office") filled with the chaos that I need to face the next week or so. I cant wait til we're done.....
Ok, someone unblindfold Alice...
Tomorrow we have Comcast coming in around 9am to hook up the phone and internet. This means another day to start early and Lord knows how long we'll be there getting things set up. Top things all off the furnace keeps kicking it's breaker off so the landlady needs to get a repairperson out to fix. If they show up tomorrow, we may stay there overnight and just start getting used to being there. If not we'll have a couple more days in the apartment we're in. With any luck we'll be in the townhouse fully by next week at the latest.
I am so happy
